Jada ~Orlando Florida Senior Photographer ~Senior Photography Central Florida ~Lauren K Downing Photography

Jada was my first senior session out of my spokesmodels and I loved getting to know her better. We had her senior session done at Rollins College, which of course is one of my favorite spots. I love her style and she made photographing her a breeze. She brought her boyfriend and mom along so we made sure to get some photos with them as well.

2018 Senior Spokesmodel Meet and Greet ~Senior Photography Orlando FL ~Lauren K Downing Photography

Several weeks ago I introduced the new spokesmodel team and I finally got to meet all my beautiful and talented young ladies. Each year I like to do something special with the girls so they can meet face to face and meet me before I want them to start taking photos. I kept it simple this year and we went for an ice cream meet up. This was also the first time most of them have met each other. It was fun seeing them meet and share excitement about their senior year. All the ladies received awesome swag bags and treats from several of our sponsors. Special thanks to Chelsea from Sweetpea Sucre Sweets and Bodhinyx Jewelry. AND of course Mary from Mary Fosky Photography for the fun behind the scenes shots. Love all these girls already and I am so excited to start sharing photos from their year.

Kaela and Matt ~Bridle Oaks Barn ~Central Florida Wedding Photography ~Lauren K Downing Photography

Kaela and Matt’s wedding was one of my favorites because of course I LOVE them (ok I am lucky I have awesome couples) and their venue was amazing! The details, the style, I loved every moment of it. I knew these two were different from the moment we met for coffee what seems like a lifetime ago. Kaela giggled as she described their vision for their wedding and Matt smiles at her because he knew he had found his person. They were married at the Bridle Oaks Barn in Deland, Florida under the shining chandelier. They promised to share laughter, dog kisses and a love that would last forever. The day was overcast (my favorite kind of day ever!!) so we were able to take advantage of every location for photos and we were not dying from the Florida heat. Kaela and Matt opted to meet each other at the alter and the moment he saw his beautiful bride was magic. The barn doors parted and Kaela was truly a vision. Off Camera Reception Lighting Setup ~Central Florida Wedding Photographer ~Lauren K Downing Photography

As I began working with other photographers this is a question I get asked all the time. What do you do at a reception? My set up is pretty basic and works great for me. My assistant can help, but I can also set this up all on my own without issue. My reception lighting set up consists of: 2 Canon 600 ex-rt flashes Canon ST-E3-RT Transmitter 2 Flash stands Photoflex Litedome soft box (16″x22″) I ordered most of these things off amazon and purchased some from a local camera shop. At a typical wedding I have my flash set at 1/32 or 1/64 depending on how much light I need and my ISO around 800-1200. Because I want my off camera flash at an angle to the side of the couple or behind the couple. I put it in my IDEAL spot and then I walk in  U pattern. I try to find a pillar or something in the room I can hide it by.My on camera flash I set to bounce. Below are some photos I took using this set up and where my off camera lighting was placed.  Off camera flash left of couple. I also had the […]

Megan and Tommy ~Paradise Cove Weddings ~Orlando Florida Wedding Photography ~Lauren K Downing Photography

Cypress trees, sand and sun were just some of the sites to see for Megan and Tommy’s Paradise Cove wedding. They met almost 5 years ago when they were set up on a blind date. The two hit it off and Tommy proposed while they were on vacation in the Bahamas. They have had several big moves as a couple and both were very ready for their wedding day to finally be here. I really cannot say enough wonderful things about Megan and Tommy. From the moment I met Megan I was anxiously awaiting their wedding. Megan was prepared from day one and truly a perfect bride! On their wedding day I arrived to laughing bridesmaids (my favorite kind) and a bride who was READY for her first look with her man. Megan was a stunning bride and left Tommy speechless when he first saw her.  I am so glad they chose to do a first look. This left us plenty of time for lots of photos and we were able to go back out after the ceremony for some at sunset. It is hard to choose a favorite when you love them ALL. One of the best parts about […]

What Lenses Should I Use to Photograph a Wedding? ~Central Florida Wedding Photographer

This is a great question and one that photographers get a lot! When I first started photographing weddings, I was paranoid about not having the right equipment so I spent time renting and picking the brains of other photographers. Here’s how I approach a wedding, and what lenses I use for each moment. I don’t think this is the only answer so I know there are photographers who would do it different. That’s OKAY! Hey that’s what makes us creative! Details I shoot most details with my 50mm 1.4 and my 100mm macro 2.8. I do carry two bodies so I always have my 24-70 2.8 L handy for a wide shot if I need one. This is especially helpful if people are around because I will have this camera set to capture a moment I would other wise miss. I love the macro lens for rings, details of the dress and jewelry, but that is about all I will use it for. All other details I will use my 50mm 1.4 (I have used the 1.2 L before and I can honestly say I just like the 1.4 better…eek I know). I use my 50mm to capture horizontal, vertical […]

Charlotte+Mitchell Wedding ~Bella Collina Weddings ~Central Florida Wedding Photography ~Lauren K Downing Photography

I am not sure I could ever possibly express how I adore these two. From our first meeting I knew this would be a day to remember and it never disappointed me. I met them on the only day in Orlando when it actually flooded (yes I wished I had rain boots) and they still had  smile on. I could immediately see their affection for each other and we had so much fun discussing their wedding details. Charlotte and Mitchell have known each other since 8th grade and when they reconnected after college it was love at first site. I love hearing them talk about each other. They are truly best friends! Mitchell proposed at Charlottes family home with her parents looking on from inside the house. On their wedding day Charlotte and Mitchell were surrounded by their closest loved ones. When we arrived on site the venue was set up and the girls were cheerful as they awaited our beautiful bride putting on her dress. Charlotte chose to keep her dress a secret from everyone except her mom, mother in law and maid of honor. The girls seeing her in her wedding dress was one of my favorite moments. […]

Kristen and James ~Sunken Gardens St. Petersburg Florida ~Lauren K Downing Photography ~Central Florida Wedding Photographers

Kristen and James hold a special place in my heart. James, a Florida State Alum has a sweet and kind soul which is the perfect match for Kristen’s bright and loving personality. Kristen and James met at the hospital where they both worked in NY at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. Kristen was working as a mother baby nurse and James came thru the nursery for his well baby rotation. When James planned to propose he told Kristen he had planned a weekend away.   They drove up to NYC from DC. From Kristen: “The whole time we were going north I was so excited and hoping that we would be going to NYC. I really missed living there, I began crying the moment I could see the skyline. I’m probably the only person to ever cry happy tears while stuck in the Lincoln tunnel. The apartment building that we lived in together in the city also has a few floors of dedicated hotel space and he rented a room and proposed almost the minute we walked thru the door. That night he had planned a dinner with some of our friends at one of our favorite restaurants.” When you […]

Veronica and Matt ~Aloft Hotel Orlando Florida ~Aloft Hotel Weddings ~Orlando Florida Wedding Photography

I have known Veronica since high school and was over the moon when she chose me as her wedding photographer. I love catching up with old friends, but I love it even more when they turn out to be one of your favorite wedding couples. Before their wedding we had a super laid back engagement session during the holidays with their adorable pup. Veronica was the perfect bride. Poised, happy, calm and STUNNING. She did a lot of the decorations herself and they did not disappoint. Their venue was the Aloft Hotel in downtown Orlando. Veronica created amazing details and helped put their wedding together from start to finish. Their wedding day went of without a hitch. Probably because these two were SOOOOO easy to work with. Their photos are some of my absolute favorites.
